About
I spent twenty-five years teaching English in Daegu, South Korea — first in classrooms and language institutes, later writing the textbooks and training the teachers who used them. I wrote the three-volume Yes Grammar series and ran teacher-training seminars for twelve years, including national sessions on HMH's Into Reading for both Korean and native English instructors.
Most of that work comes back to one situation: a student sitting in front of a text written in a language that isn't theirs. I know that position from both sides. As a native Korean speaker I can explain why English structure does what it does, in the language a student already thinks in, and I can talk with families directly when something needs explaining outside class.
I recently relocated to Massachusetts and I'm looking for a teacher assistant role supporting middle school English learners while I complete Massachusetts educator licensure.

Over twelve years I ran training sessions for local and native English teachers at public schools, private schools, and academies across South Korea — on the five essential elements of reading, on Into Reading implementation, and on keeping students engaged when a text switches from a story to an article. Published work
Yes Grammar, Volumes 1, 2, and 3 — a grammar textbook series for Korean learners of English, published by A*LIST ELT Publishing and used in academies and schools across South Korea.
Writing the series meant working out, sentence by sentence, which pieces of English grammar Korean speakers stumble on and why. That work still shapes how I explain things to a student who is stuck.
